25/04/2026 - Forgejo upgrades

The Forgejo virtual machine was upgrade from Fedora 41 to Fedora 43. Forgejo uses PostgreSQL for it database which was upgraded from 15 to 18. Forgejo itself was updated from 14.0.3 to 15.0.0.

29/03/2026 - System upgrades

The base operating systems of each container was upgraded to the latest version of the respective OS (Fedora 43, Deban 13, etc.). Also the applications running in each container was upgraded (Caddy 2.11.2, Agate 3.3.21, Kiwix 3.8.2, Forgejo 14.0.3, PM2 6.0.14, etc.). Some container IP addresses were changed and one container (the HTTP Proxy) was changed from OpenSUSE to Debian. Due to the lack of time, some services were not updated yet, those include: Forgejo’s Fedora system and PostgreSQL database server, Minecraft’s Paper server and mods, MediaWiki’s MariaDB server for IM-Wiki. There are minor errors with Forgejo that I plan to fix after applying the remaining upgrades. The (reversed engineered) Deepworld server, Brainwine, has been temporarily shutdown as it was not functional and needs to be updated.

After all the upgrades are applied, future maintenance would be easier and faster as I would be incrementally updating services instead of updating everything at once.

25/03/2026 - Outbound emails

I have enabled and configured email sending for Forgejo, MediaWiki and Joplin; so, now you will be able to get password recovery emails or notifications. Expect any new things hosted to have email configured by default. I’ve also enabled SMTP for Proxmox but that is for myself to better monitor the server.

21/03/2026 - More taglines added

I had a huge list of taglines to add to the script and now I had time to sit down and add them! For those who don’t know, it is the (usually) short sentence above the buttons on the main site. The script for it is here. There is now 842 unique lines to be displayed and only display on the landing page for now.

14/03/2026 - Server overheating

I noticed the server started powering off on its own after a small period of being on. After inspecting the hardware, turns out the the mounting point of the heat-sink on the motherboard broke. The mounting is made of plastic and my guess is the mechanical and thermal stress have worn the plastic over time. I have cleaned up the server from dust, added new thermal paste and reoriented the server so that the heat-sink isn’t being pulled away from the CPU by gravity. Basically the CPU fan is running without it being firmly mounted.

Expect slowness and downtime as I do not have a replacement motherboard right now.

11/03/2026 - Notices & site updates

I will be using this space for any updates regarding myself or changes I make to the server, site or anything I host. This lets me very quickly make announcements without needing to update my site’s code then pull the changes to my server. Also no need to rebuild site for edits!

why not just use my blog for this?

  1. I’m not happy with my blog for many reasons and want to rewrite it from scratch, most likely in svelte.
  2. This is faster than making a blog post, and I can do it from my phone as well.
  3. The blog serves more as a show case of interesting things I do rather than “by the way, oh I increased the server’s disk space.”.
